When I first arrived at Chateau-Bois-Briand one of my first questions was "When was it built"? I have since come to realize how naive that question was. Like asking: "When did the tree grow"? The château did not suddenly appear in full form on some date in history rather it has been a product at history, evolving over 600 years, with each generation of residents changing and shaping the property through use. I have had the pleasure of spending three vacations living among the Delalonde Family, the present owners ang gentle caretakers of Chateau-Bois-Briand. Over the years I have watched their careful and artful efforts to both preserve and improve the château. Renovation of an ancient property is a complex job, requiring the skills of historian, archeologist, architect and designer. The Delalonde have risen to the challenge, modernizing and improving upon guest convenience, without ever sacrificing the plapable sense of history found throughout the château. Most impressively, they have managed this delicate balance while still preserving the sense of home. I continue to admire each completed project but it is the feeling of home which keeps me coming back.
